About QR Codes

Press Release Image

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

What are these things anyway?  QR (Quick Response) codes have been out in the world for some time, but are just now gaining popularity in the United States.  QR codes (more technical name: matrix barcode) are images can be read by inexpensive (or free) scanner apps found on iTunes, the Android Market, Blackberry App World, etc, that are installed on your smartphone.  Using your device's camera, the app reads the image, which in turn initiates one of a number of possible activities, including:

  • Displaying a piece of text to the user
  • Storing contact information
  • Directing the device's browser to open up a web page (usually a mobile-friendly one)
  • Sending a text message
  • Calling a phone number

CWS can now put a QR code on various pages of your main website, and we are planning for further QR code management features in the very near future.  Your account manager can help you get these handy codes implemented on your website starting today!
